  Notes for biography	Paternity and names :- * The birth record states 'illegitimate' (ref : Parkinson, p 246, AOT, NS, 590/1/2202) * She must have been named after Samuel's three sisters - almost certainly at his suggestion. * Also Samuel's niece (the daughter of his brother, Edward) Florence Elizabeth Jane WAY has this name - she was born in 1869, which was 8 years previously. * Some sources (eg Parkinson) have concluded that Samuel was the father, however research by Carol Brill indicates that Samuel was involved in court proceedings in Adelaide around 9 months before Florence was born. And there has been no confirmation about Samuel travelling to Tasmania by ship at that time. Was he at her baptism 3 months after her birth? * John White is named in a newspaper item as Florence's father when she died at 3 years. * This requires further research and documentation.

J., infant daughter of Mr. John White, aged 3 years and 2 months. 3052 (Hobart Mercury, 25th March 1880, page 1) * Belinda Gooding and her husband ran the hotel at the Blue Tier for many years so I expect that Susannah was visiting them there when Florence died." (This note from Carol Brill, email 11th Aug 2018) * Blue Tier is 13 kms north-west of Gould's Country in the north-east corner of Tasmania - a long way from Hobart.
