Biography : "Rachel and Charles Richard WILKEY came to SA in 1836 on the Coromandel. They were listed as married but I believe they had actually eloped. They either married or remarried in 1860 in Adelaide because they were devout members of the Bible Christian church and maybe had a bout of conscience or they merely remarried as a commitment. Who knows? I cannot find a birth for her and although the 1860 certificate says her father?s name was Charles Way she may just have given her husband?s name. There is one marriage of a Rachel Way and Charles Richard Wilkey in London but I don?t think it is them. The only real clue I have is the middle name of many of their children ? Fry which may well be her mother?s maiden name??. Charles Wilkey died in 1885 and Rachael remarried Edward Barnett in 1887.? (ref : Jan Polkinghorne) [1] |
